Workshop Overview
This meeting aims to engage OMII-UK staff, software developers, architects and users to come up with collaborative solutions, or approaches, to problems of interest to the e-Research community. Participants are encouraged to register well focused topics with requirements, if any, for discussion with short descriptions below
.
This format has been successfully used at previous OMII-UK staff meetings. These have been found to be productive for generating new ideas, requirements, solutions and, in general, constructively exploring the e-Research space. We have found that inviting people from outside OMII-UK to previous meetings have provided valuable input and they, in turn, have found these meetings to be very productive hence we are opening up the meeting to all interested parties.
How can I get involved?
To register please visit the NeSC registration page
. Once registered, attendees can indicate which of the topics are of interest to them. On the day, break out groups will be scheduled to come up with solutions for topics via: discussion, writing of software or by trying to deploy existing components to work together. Topics will be examined for as long as required within the duration of the meeting (or beyond) - it is up to the group members to judge when an adequate conclusions has been drawn. There will be regular reporting to the other attendees summarising what has been achieved up to that point, what is to be done next or whether a topic has been exhausted. Once a topic has been discussed the group will migrate to a new topic or disband and join other groups after writing up a set of summary slides enumerating outcomes
and possible future work (if any).
Workshop Format
The workshop will start off with a set of introductory presentations giving some of the aims, background of OMII-UK. A quick review of topics and selection of the first set of topics then a mixture of break-out groups, reporting sessions followed by more break out sessions.
A summary session will be held at the close of play for each day. This will enable us to wrap up what we have discovered and identify the most promising leads for further scrutiny.
Audience Profile
We are looking forward to meeting up with around 50 like-minded software developers, architects and e-Researchers with a connection to, or at an least interest in, OMII-UK. The workshop is primarily targeted at OMII-UK staff and partners but if you have an interest in e-Research or if you have a challenge that could benefit from an e-Research solution then you are welcome to apply to attend. Formally, partners refers to OMII-UK Product/Area Liaisons PALs, CSP collaborators and those involved in ENGAGE
based projects.
Poster session
There will be a poster session during lunch for both days. Recent achievements from the Engage Initiative projects will be on show but if you would like to submit a poster showing of your recent success stories or tools for the e-Research community we would welcome that too.Break-out session topics
The themes and topics for the break-out sessions is currently being finalised but there is still time to suggest new ones: do you have some work-in-progress that you would like to share or a e-Research challenge that you would like to unpick?
Ideas and suggestions should be sent to info@omii.ac.uk
Alternatively, if you have a wiki login (you can get this by registering) you should be able to edit this page and add a topic directly (please follow the pattern established by the entries already added).
