Apache Commons VFS Extensions for Grids

Project Idea

OMII-UK has built on the Commons VFS package to provide functionality for the GridSAM and JSDL Application Repository software components. Although we have already implemented extensions for GridFTP and SRB, integrated with these packages we feel this work would be useful as a standalone project/API. This work could then be donated to Apache VFS project in the list of 3rd party plugins.

Additionally, we could also provide new extensions for iRods / SRM (or other Grid related protocols of importance to the community) or improve the performance and robustness of the current implementation.

Project Requirements

To be able to do this project the student must be able to program in Java and be familiar with the basics of file system IO.
