Secondary Mentor: TBD
OMII Project: OMII-SAGA
and RAVE
.
Background
Large biological datasets such as those found in genomics, systems biology, and molecular modeling require substantial computing power both to operate on the data and to visualize it. Distributed computing techniques provide a means of obtaining greater processing power for working with these datasets.
Project Goals
The project will develop a framework with SAGA and RAVE by which to produce, manipulate, and visualize complex biological datasets. SAGA will be used to tie together biological computing applications, with RAVE used as an example of a dataset visualization package.
Project Description
This project will adapt an existing biological computing package or construct an example simulation to operate in a distributed fashion via use of SAGA. Visualization services will be provided via RAVE as an example of distributed visualization.
Project Requirements
Knowledge of C++, Java
