JSDL Applications Repository Known Issues

The following issues are recognised.

  1. Currently, the portal itself performs cross protocol file staging/data transfer between Srb, GsiFtp, Ftp, Sftp using Commons VFS (via byte IO). It is recognised that a dedicated data staging service that supports transfers between these different file systems is required to serve the portal (to address scalability and concurrency issues). Investigations are under way to either extend the existing portal VFS functionality (to produce such a service), or integrate an existing service that fulfils the said requirements (maybe GridSam? if Srb is supported and assuming it can be extended to double as such a dedicated service).
  2. With the new JSDL parameter sweep extensions, a single JSDL document can be expanded to produce multiple separate job instances (effectively producing multiple separate JSDL documents). Submission and monitoring of a JSDL that describes a collection of jobs should be performed by a dedicated service (rather than, for example, submitting and monitoring one thousand jobs directly from the portal to the underlying middleware). This requirement needs to be addressed, including support for the ‘File-Sweep’ part of the JSDL Parameter Sweep specification (i.e. ‘search and replace’ operations on input files).
